Company
Senior Linux practice, established in 2003.
Datalay Soluciones Informáticas S.L. is an independent Spanish infrastructure company. We work remotely with organisations across Europe, solving difficult Linux problems and improving the reliability, capacity, security, and operation of the systems their businesses depend on.
Linux before Datalay
The people behind Datalay were part of Spain's early Linux community well before founding the company—contributing to Debian, helping establish a university Linux users' group, maintaining real services, and writing about Linux for specialist publications.
What later became Datalay began as genuine involvement with the technology, its community, and the principles behind it. Linux was not selected later as a marketing category. It has been part of our work from the beginning.
More than two decades close to the systems
Datalay has operated continuously since 2003. Over that time infrastructure has moved through physical data-centre racks, successive generations of virtualisation, cloud platforms, containerised workloads, increasingly automated operations, and private AI. The tools have changed; the principles of dependable systems work have not.
You need to understand what a system is for before changing it. Simple, documented arrangements usually outlast clever but opaque ones. Repeated work should be controlled. Capacity should be measured before it becomes a crisis. Backups matter only when recovery works. And the person making a technical decision should be prepared to take responsibility for its consequences.
Experience is not attachment to old tools. It is the ability to recognise which principles remain sound, which technologies genuinely improve the work, and which complexity adds more risk than value.
Why senior experience matters
Complex infrastructure problems rarely stay inside one neat category. An application symptom may begin in storage, memory pressure, name resolution, routing, a certificate, or an interaction between several layers. Experience does not replace method, but it helps identify which questions matter and which changes are safe.
Senior judgement is also valuable before anything fails. It recognises fragile patterns, unnecessary complexity, capacity trends, and operational gaps early enough to deal with them calmly. The aim is not to perform heroics more impressively. It is to make fewer heroics necessary.
A focused company
Linux infrastructure is not a department at the edge of a broader general IT business. It is Datalay's working practice. The people clients speak with remain close to the systems, the decisions, and the outcome.
Being focused also keeps recommendations independent. We do not need to force a particular vendor, cloud, licence, or management agent into every environment. We can work with what is already sound, change what is not, and explain the trade-offs plainly.
Spain, Europe, and remote collaboration
Datalay is based in Spain and works with companies in Spain and elsewhere in Europe. Collaboration is remote, in English or Spanish, during European business hours. The systems may be in an office, a data centre, a cloud account, or several locations at once; effective infrastructure work does not require the engineer to sit beside the hardware.
Remote does not mean distant from the team. We work in the communication and operational channels where decisions are made, maintaining direct contact with the people responsible for the business and its technology.
The kind of relationship we value
We work well with organisations that care about how their infrastructure is run, value honest technical judgement, and want a relationship capable of adapting over time. Some have strong internal teams and need a specialist colleague. Others want the confidence of handing us broad responsibility. Many combine the two.
In every case, good work should leave the systems more reliable and the organisation with greater clarity and control.
